Director General (m/f/d)

About Us & Our Vision

The Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Handball (FLH) is the national governing body responsible for regulating, developing, and promoting handball and its affiliated sports disciplines across Luxembourg. Our jurisdiction spans indoor handball, beach handball, wheelchair handball, and dodgeball, uniting 15 local clubs, ~3,100 licensed players, dedicated volunteers, and national teams competing on the international stage.

As part of our 2023–2027 Strategic Master Plan, the FLH is undergoing a structural evolution to professionalize our operations. We are transitioning from a board-operated framework to a management-driven, board-approved model. Our vision is to elevate the FLH brand, expand youth and school initiatives, strengthen performance across national sectors, and foster deep cross-border ties to build a sustainable sports ecosystem.

To lead this transformation, we are seeking a Director General (DG) to assume overall operational leadership, serve as an integrator between key departments, and build our future organizational architecture.

Your Mission & Strategic Roles

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, you will translate overarching strategy into concrete, measurable programs. You will serve as the operational anchor between the Board, the technical and administrative departments.

  • Strategic Integrator: Turn strategic directions defined by the Board into clear multi-year action plans and operational milestones.

  • Governance Architect: Establish reliable governance workflows, legally sound contracts, and systematic monitoring of federation processes.

  • Organizational & Culture Developer: Professionalize daily operations, resolve internal knowledge silos, and build a culture of transparency, collaboration, and collective performance.

  • Network & Brand Developer: Represent the FLH alongside the Board to public authorities, local clubs, commercial sponsors, and international bodies (EHF, IHF, COSL) to grow handball as a strong brand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Executive Leadership: Oversee day-to-day administrative and operational functions, coordinating efforts across technical, administrative, and specialized sports working groups.

  • Financial Oversight & Growth: Manage budget preparation, financial controls, public subsidies, and develop sponsorship streams.

  • Stakeholder Relations: Maintain strong collaborative ties with 15 member clubs, school sports initiatives, cross-border competition bodies, and key institutional partners including public authorities, government bodies (Ministère des Sports, Ministère de l'Éducation nationale), the Comité Olympique et Sportif Luxembourgeois (COSL), the Luxembourg Institute for High Performance in Sports (LIHPS), and the Ligue des Associations Sportives Scolaires (SLL) and many more. At the same time, actively develop new relationships and strategic partnerships to broaden our network, strengthen cooperation across the sporting and institutional landscape

  • Modernization Projects: Audit and modernize internal IT, marketing, and communication channels to future-proof the federation.

Candidate Profile

Must-Have Requirements

  • Education & Leadership: Master’s degree (Bac+5) in Management, Business Administration, Law, Finance, Marketing, or a sports-related discipline, accompanied by proven leadership experience in a complex organization.

  • Governance & Diplomacy: Calm, pragmatic, and highly diplomatic personality; discrete and trustworthy, with strong stakeholder management abilities.

  • Language Proficiency: Very good command of English (C1), French (B1) and German (B1) (written & spoken).
