This role is essential because you will guide the smooth deployment of the next generation of smart tire technologies directly into the operational fleet. As the Principal Engineer, you serve as the guarantor of harmony between the development team and real-world application, ensuring that solutions are industrialized and reliable. Your contribution is critical: through meticulous hands-on work, troubleshooting vehicle systems, and providing crucial tactical support to installation teams, you will lay the foundation for tire data (Tire Intelligence) to become a trustworthy source that drives fleet performance and Goodyear's innovation.
What You’ll Do
- Define Requirements: Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers to define system requirements and specifications, ensuring alignment and clarity.
- Lead Integration: Oversee the seamless integration of hardware and software components within fleet vehicle systems.
- Coordinate Teams and Knowledge Transfer: Organize and coordinate technicians’ daily activities while fostering effective knowledge transfer essential for industrialization.
- Manage Hardware Lifecycle: Oversee verification, validation, and re-certification of end-of-life hardware, and support warranty claims processing.
- Conduct Diagnostics: Lead troubleshooting activities and diagnostic testing, applying strong analytical skills to resolve complex mechanical issues.
- Develop Global Standards: Create global standard installation manuals for wiring harnesses and electronic modules, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Ensure Documentation Quality: Manage documentation and communication of test results and detailed reports, maintaining accuracy and information integrity.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Apply a continuous improvement mindset and provide constructive feedback to cross-functional teams.
- Promote Safety and Skills Development: Ensure adherence to OSHA safety standards, support a safe work environment, and provide technical support and training to team members as needed.
What you’ll bring
- A Solid Educational Foundation: You hold a bachelor’s degree in automotive technology, mechanical or electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field, and ideally a master’s degree. Your learning mindset and curiosity guide your growth.
- Meaningful Technical & Industry Experience: You bring 5–8 years of experience working closely with fleets, supporting field activities, and working with vehicle telematics, diagnostics, and hardware installations. You feel confident navigating complex technical environments.
- A Collaborative Approach to Project Leadership: You have experience guiding and coordinating projects with care and attention to detail, ensuring solutions are reliable, high-quality, and well supported.
- Comfort Working Across Diverse Teams: You enjoy partnering with developers, engineers, and other cross-functional colleagues. You value teamwork and believe shared success comes from open communication and mutual support.
- Strong Understanding of Automotive Standards & Processes: You bring a grounded understanding of automotive practices and standards, and you’re comfortable adapting as technologies evolve.
- Clear & Empathetic Communication Skills: You communicate technical information in a clear, approachable way and feel at ease providing guidance, training, and support to end users and stakeholders.
- A Proactive, Supportive Mindset: You are self-motivated and thoughtful in your work, with the flexibility to travel 20–30% when needed. You thrive in environments where you can take initiative while supporting those around you.
