How will you contribute?
We are looking for a researcher with expertise in 5G/6G, edge computing, and intelligent networking to strengthen our activities in next-generation connectivity and distributed intelligence. The role involves driving new research initiatives, leading project development, and shaping strategic directions in mobile-edge-cloud integration, AI at the edge, and distributed intelligence. It includes identifying emerging opportunities, securing funding, and fostering collaborations across academia and industry. As part of this work, you will also play a key role in an ambitious initiative at the Belval Innovation Campus in Luxembourg, where we are deploying a 5G-enabled edge computing infrastructure to support smart city applications.
Key roles and responsibilities:
- Lead and contribute to RDI activities with autonomy, advancing research in 6G communications and networks, with a focus on distributed intelligence and mobile-edge computing.
- Drive the development of new research initiatives by securing funding, preparing project proposals, and shaping LIST’s roadmap in edge computing and the evolution toward 6G.
- Engage with stakeholders to foster knowledge exchange and amplify LIST’s impact in next-generation connectivity and urban data-driven innovation.
- Supervise or co-supervise junior researchers and engineers, providing guidance to enhance their effectiveness and success. Coordinate the work of team members involved in projects.
- Support the development, deployment, and exploitation of a 5G-enabled edge computing infrastructure at the Belval campus, contributing to its role as a hub for smart city solutions.
- Contribute to scientific excellence through high-quality publications, peer-reviewed journal articles, and technical reports, while also reviewing the work of less experienced researchers.

Education
- PhD + at least 3 years of experience in 5G/6G RDI activities.
Technical expertise required
- Background in 5G/6G communications and networks
- Background in edge computing and networking specifically, with hands-on experience in deploying and testing infrastructure in practical, real-world settings, is considered as an advantage.
- Knowledge of smart city applications.
- Proven experience with RDI projects, including familiarity with proposal development and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
Soft skills
- Effective project management and organizational abilities to coordinate across complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within diverse teams and with external partners.
- Strategic thinking with an interest in identifying and contributing to new research opportunities.
Language skills
- Fluent English is a requirement. French, German or Luxembourgish is an advantage.
