Lower School Teaching Assistant- After-School Care (3.5 Month contract)

Brief description:

The role of the LS After-School Care Teaching Assistant is to assist the Lower School After School Activities Coordinator in the running and teaching of Lower School After School Care activities. The ISL After School Care Program is an extra-curricular programme offered by ISL during the school year primarily to ISL Early Years students aged 3-5 whilst older children may join after their school day finishes.

We are keen to attract applicants from diverse backgrounds, particularly those whose nationality, identity, gender or race is currently under-represented in international education.

Profile: (training, experience, skills and aptitudes necessary to do the job)

• Minimum of a secondary school diploma;

• Fluency in English (near-native English speaker with clear pronunciation);

• Good general computer skills (MS Office programmes, Google Suite, internet searches, email), confidence in working with different pieces of technology (tablets, digital cameras, etc);

• Previous successful experience working in a school setting with children and students ages 3-6 yrs preferred, ideally in a PYP school;

• Experience in working in a collaborative learning environment;

• Interest in recent developments in primary education;

• Understanding of and experience working with students who are English Language Learners;

• Experience working in a multi-cultural environment;

• Enjoy working with students, staff and parents;

• Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a dynamic environment.

• Demonstrate some flexibility with working hours when necessary.

Among main responsibilities:

General:

● Assist in creating a caring, positive learning environment as directed by the Supervisor;

● Promote mutual respect and understanding among all members of the group;

● Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues and leadership;

● Assist in maintaining expectations of student behavior in and out of the activities to create a well-functioning and consistent learning atmosphere in school;

● Comply with School policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, welfare, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting any concerns to the appropriate person;

● Maintain familiarity and understanding of the ISL pedagogy and assist in its delivery as directed by the Supervisor;

● Support the Lower School culture of thinking;

● Be familiar with all school rules and conscientiously assist in enforcing them;

Activities:

● Supports the Supervisor organizing the different activities of the After-School Care activities and student group lists if necessary;

● Helps prepare the logistics and the materials for the activities;

● Runs the assigned activities of the programme;

● Works in close collaboration with other colleagues assigned to the activities;

● Assists with the clearing up after the activities;

● Ensures ISL’s health and security requirements are met during the programme;

● Share constructive feedback of the programme at the end of the school year;

● Support the Supervisor in any other necessary issues related to the After-School Care activities;

Additional:

● When absent, leave information concerning daily tasks for substitute;

● Handle personal problems and grievances in a professional way as outlined within the ISL Staff Handbook;

● Model the values and professional demeanor as outlined in the ISL Staff Handbook;

● Undertake professional development as might be required by the school in order to better fulfil their role;

● Undertake such other duties as may be assigned by the appropriate Principal or the Director.
