LUNEX is a specialised higher‐education institution founded in 2015 in Differdange (Luxembourg) offering programmes in health, sport, and management. Our vision is to be an internationally recognised European hub for research-led education, committed to quality assurance and continuous improvement in line with European Higher Education. As we enter our next phase of development, we are seeking an Academic Director to shape our academic future and further strengthen the quality, relevance and impact of our programmes and research.

Purpose of the role

The Academic Director is the senior academic leader of the university. You will be responsible for academic strategy, programme and research development and academic governance. Working closely with the Board of Directors and the executive leadership, you will develop high-quality programmes, foster a vibrant research culture and ensure an excellent learning environment for students. You will lead the academic community and collaborate with adminstrative and institutional services to ensure that the academic ambitions are supported by robust systems and an outstanding student experience.

Key responsibilities

Academic Leadership

• Lead the academic development of the university and deliver its academic vision, programme portfolio and research strategy.

• Ensure excellence in teaching, research and knowledge exchange across all programmes.

• Foster a culture of academic integrity, innovation and collaboration.

Programme and Portfolio Development

• Evaluate and develop academic programmes in line with the institutional strategy and societal needs.

• Identify opportunities for new and interdisciplinary programmes and international partnerships.

Academic governance and quality

• Ensure robust academic governance structures and processes.

• Oversee programme quality, accreditation processes and continuous quality enhancement.

• Promote evidence-based decision-making and the effective use of academic data.

Academic Community and Leadership

• Lead and support academic Heads of Department and staff.

• Promote an inclusive academic culture that supports professional development, collaboration and academic freedom.

• Serve as a member of the institution’s senior leadership team and work closely with the Director of Resources and Services.

• Contribute to strategic institutional development, including internationalisation and research partnerships.

Candidate profile

• Doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant field.

• Substantial academic leadership experience in higher education, including institutional, programme portfolio or research strategy development.

• Strong record of research excellence and the ability to lead and grow a research agenda.

• Sound knowledge of quality assurance in higher education and experience implementing internal QA systems.

• Experience in curriculum design, digitalisation of teaching and learning, student‑centred pedagogies and international programmes.

• Ability to manage budgets, resources and staff in a growth‑oriented environment.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage academic staff, students and external stakeholders.

• High level of fluency in English; good working knowledge of French and/or German is an advantage.

• Strategic, change‑oriented mindset and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, sustainable development and responsible management education.
