The AIRA Research Group, part of the Human-centered AI, Data and Software (HANDS) research unit, focuses on assessing and enabling trustworthy AI adoption through methods and tools for compliance, readiness, and performance evaluation.

 

 

How will you contribute?

 

We are seeking for a highly motivated Senior R&T Scientist to join our team and contribute to the development of projects in the field of Data Space-based AI-enabled Local Digital Twins for Smart Communities. As a Senior R&T Scientist, you will contribute to LIST's leadership in the European project LDT4SSC (Local Digital Twins for Smart and Sustainable Communities). You will lead LIST activities in Local Digital Twin Ecosystem and contribute significantly to Pilot Definition and Provisioning, as well as contributing to other related tasks. In this role, you will coordinate the European stakeholder engagement and contribute to the definition of technical frameworks for pilot deployment in smart communities, aligned with EU digital and green transformation goals, including the use of Data Spaces and Local Digital Twin technologies.

 

Main Responsibilities:

 

·        Represent LIST in the project consortium and nurture a network of partners in the field of smart cities.

·        Coordinate and lead the Local Digital Twin Ecosystem workpackage, ensuring timely delivery of milestones, with a focus on stakeholder engagement, sustainability strategy, and capacity building for the LDT ecosystem.

·        Represent LIST in the strategic discussions shaping the European LDT ecosystem and coordinate input from related initiatives (e.g., CitCom.ai, DS4SSCC, Living-in.EU, EDIC-LDT).

·        Contribute to Pilot Definition and Provisioning by co-designing pilot specifications, technical maturity models, and support documentation.

·        Engage with stakeholders from the quadruple helix to validate pilot requirements and ensure the reuse and scalability of developed services.

·        Conduct and publish original RDI work related to digital twin ecosystems, interoperability frameworks (e.g., NGSI-LD, MIMs Plus), and AI-based services.

·        Draft technical deliverables and scientific publications; contribute to international conferences and policy dialogue.

·        Identify new funding opportunities and contribute to project proposal development aligned with LIST’s RDI strategy.

·        Build external collaborations and strengthen LIST’s position in the European digital twin and smart city landscape.

·        Co-supervise young researchers or engineers, and contribute to knowledge transfer within the team and externally.

Education

 

·        PhD in Computer Science, with applications on Smart Cities, Urban Informatics, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.

 

Experience and skills

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum 2 years of postdoctoral experience in RDI activities.

  • Experience as a work package leader or technical coordinator in EU-funded projects (e.g., Horizon 2020, DIGITAL Europe).

  • Proven ability to autonomously lead and deliver high-quality work packages on time and within scope.

  • Solid understanding of European interoperability frameworks and the agenda of industry and public sector stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Strong project management and coordination capabilities, including planning, reporting, and community engagement.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Contribution to successful research project proposals (e.g., Horizon Europe, Digital Europe, Interreg).

  • Peer-reviewed publications in indexed journals related to digital twins, smart cities, or interoperability.

  • Co-supervision of MSc or PhD students.

  • Development of assets contributing to open-source digital twin or data space ecosystems.

 

Language skills

·        Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French or German is an advantage.
