How will you contribute?
Contributing to multiple R&D projects in the AIRA team, an R&T Scientist position is opened to contribute with algorithms and models in data-driven and digital twin initiatives at LIST. As a team member, you will contribute to the development of data applications and dashboards that drive Digital Twin projects. You will act as the scientific bridge to partners and customers, translating complex needs into algorithms, models, and metrics. Utilizing the infrastructure provided by the Research Engineers of the team, you will produce the high-level insights necessary for a diversity of projects.

Your duties may include:
Algorithm Development: Evaluate, select, and apply advanced scientific methods to create data applications, dashboards, and predictive models. Define and implement specialized metrics and indicators for sectors like energy transition, urban logistics, mobility, and climate resilience, required by multiple projects to which you will contribute
Digital Twin Integration: Contribute to the design and build end-to-end Decision-Support Systems (DSS) and Digital Twins using modern technical stacks. Translate partner requirements into the core metrics and models required for high-fidelity Digital Twin solutions.
Contribution to team technical stacks: Translate research outputs (e.g., models, algorithms) into deployable and reusable components, including APIs and services. Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and agile development practices
Dashboards and visualization: Design and maintain intuitive dashboard visualizations that enable clear and effective user interaction Develop and maintain web-based user interfaces to enable intuitive interaction with the digital twin and data services.
Scientific Analysis: Make critical analysis and synthesis of new or complex ideas to solve challenges in projects like CitCom.ai.
Task Leadership: Take charge of the development and conduct of tasks and work packages or small RDI projects.
Dissemination: Publish scientific papers, technical reports and project deliverables, and present findings at international conferences and to the research community.
Funding & Proposals: Define RDI project proposals under guidance and contribute to identifying new funding opportunities.
Networking: Actively support the group senior staff and management to develop scientific and industrial networks relevant to AI and Digital Twins.
Mentorship: Assist and guide entry-level researchers, technicians, or trainees.
Education
PhD degree or equivalent experience in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related scientific field.
Experience and skills
Experience in R&D projects related to the field of data analytics and modelling in Energy, Environment, Mobility or Climate, among others.
Strong programming skills in Python/R, machine learning frameworks, and dashboarding tools (e.g., Streamlit, Superset, Grafana, PowerBI).
Familiarity with various types of databases, including NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB), graph databases (e.g., Neo4j), and time-series databases (e.g., InfluxDB, TimescaleDB).
Frontend development experience using modern frameworks such as React or Angular, with a focus on usability and performance would be desirable (not mandatory)
Strong capacity for abstraction, reasoning, and structured problem-solving.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate across diverse, multicultural teams and translate between technical and organizational contexts.
Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Familiarity with the EU and Luxembourg RDI landscape and research funding mechanisms.
Proven project management skills and a focus on collaborative teamwork
Language skills
Fluency in English both oral and written. Other relevant languages are an asset.
