Research Data Specialist

Your role

As a Research Data Specialist, you will support researchers in managing data across the research lifecycle. You will implement FAIR-compliant RDM strategies and collaborate with data and library specialists across faculties, working at the intersection of research and infrastructure in a diverse, forward-looking environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of guidelines and procedures for adequate data lifecycle management, standards, documentation, and information security
  • Assist with managing data submissions, e.g. sequencing, clinical assay and survey data, handling data access requests and support in downstream processes, while ensuring appropriate documentation and metadata standards
  • Facilitate data preservation, archiving and sharing
  • Contribute to specific project deliverables as required
  • Contribute to the development of innovative discipline-specific services and tools relevant to research data
  • Contribute to the development of training materials on relevant topics, including Data Management and Reproducibility
  • Contribute to projects, project deliverables, scientific publications, and community work in the field of Data Stewardship
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of procedures/practices, as well as novel IT solutions as required by advancements in the field
  • Collaborate with IT, Library and Research Support teams to promote coordinated data management services

Your profile

  • Postgraduate/Master’s degree/qualification in computer science, engineering, data science, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrable experience of collaborative research, research data management and data quality control
  • Demonstrable computer programming skills are essential, with good knowledge of CLI and Python/R
  • Proven experience using REDCap for the design, management, and export of study data
  • Good knowledge of research practice, as well as a broad understanding of how research operates, and how data and software underpin reproducible research
  • Knowledge of metadata standards and ontologies relevant to the fields of life sciences, medicine and health is considered an asset
  • Experience with biomedical and health data is considered an asset, including data derived from electronic health records, patient-generated data, clinical, omics, imaging data
  • Knowledge and experience of an ELN software is considered an asset
  • Fluency in English is required
