Lower School Assistant Principal / PYP Coordinator

At the International School of Luxembourg, learning is a journey shaped by curiosity, connection, and purpose.

We are seeking a Lower School Assistant Principal / PYP Coordinator who is inspired by the transformational potential of the IB Primary Years Programme and who believes deeply in the power of inquiry, conceptual understanding, and student agency.

This is a unique opportunity for a relational and principled leader to help shape a vibrant learning community where students, educators, and families learn and grow together.

What is the Role?

The Lower School Assistant Principal / PYP Coordinator is first and foremost a leader of learning—someone who brings people together around a shared vision for high-quality, inquiry-based education.

As a key member of the Lower School Leadership Team, you will play a central role in ensuring the coherence, integrity, and ongoing development of the PYP and the Lower School curriculum.

You will lead through relationships, influence, and trust, fostering a culture where collaboration, reflection, and continuous growth are at the heart of teaching and learning.

Who are you?

You are a thoughtful, human-centered educator and leader who:

  • Believes in the IB mission and embodies the IB Learner Profile in both action and mindset

  •  Leads with integrity, empathy, and respect, building strong relationships across the school community

  • Creates psychological safety, where teachers feel confident to take risks, reflect openly, and grow professionally

  • Navigates complexity with care, adaptability, and sound judgment

  • Is committed to inclusive, culturally responsive practices within an international community

  • Demonstrates a deep commitment to student wellbeing, agency, and holistic development

  • Engages with innovation—including AI—with a human-centered and ethical approach

Your Experience and Expertise?

  • Deep understanding of the IB Primary Years Programme, with the experience, competence, and confidence to build understanding and capacity in others.

  • Leadership experience in an IB PYP international school, with experience across a range of school settings.

  • Advanced professional training or certification in a relevant field, and or a minimum of three years of successful experience in a comparable leadership role.

  • Valid teaching certification and a strong track record as an effective educator.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and facilitate professional learning for teachers and workshops for parents.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with knowledge of an additional language considered an asset.

  • Strong understanding of the effective use of technology to support student learning, with openness to emerging technologies.

  • Experience using data to support decision making, including data collection, analysis, visualisation, and the use of curriculum and learning management systems.

  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated adaptability and professional judgement when navigating complex or challenging situations.

  • Highly collaborative and consultative, with the ability to work productively with colleagues across roles and teams.

  • Comfortable engaging in difficult conversations, navigating professional disagreement, and using constructive dialogue to strengthen practice.

  • Demonstrates professionalism in supporting and implementing agreed decisions while contributing thoughtfully to collective decision making.

  • AI Literacy skills: understand AI principles, explore AI uses, direct AI effectively, evaluate AI outputs, use AI responsibly.
